Around tax time next year it looks like I'll have an extra six grand. That got me thinking about a much needed vacation. Being a huge racing fan I decided that going to Austin for the F1 race would be a great get away. After doing some reading on the interweb, I found out that I can camp next to the track for pretty cheap. So that got me thinking some more about a road trip. But I can't just road go for a 2000mile road trip in my 1996 Camry. That would be boring and ruin the whole trip. That brings me to my question, if you had a six grand budget, what would you buy to take on a road trip? Must be a slush box, must hold two people, and get decent mileage. If you guys would like to search my area, my zip code is 52001.

not to mention you can camp in it, relax like it's a living room, sit on top with deck furniture for a better view or tow some bikes along hah

CTS-V coupe? That would be my choice for a longass road trip to the greatest race on American soil!

With a six grand budget? I'm assuming it has a salvage title, has been flooded, and the engine has been replaced by a sail and box fan. Or maybe a horse.

OK. New crazy plan. A friend of mine planned a coast to coast vacation once by driving an old guy's Audi from Palm Springs to Las Vegas. Even got PAID to do it. I know he had to apply for the job, and had to pay all expenses out of pocket (although he was reimbursed), and had to have a co-driver. Idea? I honestly have no clue where you'd go to look for such a job, but who knows. Lots of people moving to Austin these days...

Have no idea what you've got in mind but VTEC "yo." Doesn't mention trans so I'm assuming slushy-slusherton.

Can I suggest a route, if you REALLY want a road trip? I don't know much about the first half, but I'd make a point to hit Hannibal, MO to visit the Mark Twain House. Then go into the Ozarks through NW Arkansas. Eureka Springs and Fayetteville. This is an amazing drive, especially in the fall. Great roads, amazing scenery, good food, all the way down through Hot Springs and Arkadelphia. You could stay off thr 540 and take the famous Pig Trail (HW71) instead. Sort of terrifying. Pick up I30 and drive through Texarkana. Avoid I35 (it's boring, congested, and ugly) and cut south though Tyler and Corsicana instead. It'll add some miles, but they're good ones.
